Turning wood waste and forest residue into profit
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) has a progamme that offers grants to encourage forest industries to use their wood-waste as energy generation for themselves or to sell on to others. By using wood-waste as a fuel or selling it on the wood energy market, businesses can reduce or offset their energy costs.
EECA is now offering project grants to fund up to 40% of a project’s cost (up to $200,000) to help install and develop projects that turn wood-waste into fuel. Any business that can supply wood-waste as a renewable energy source to the market place – whether it’s hogged fuel, sawdust, pellets or wood chips – or businesses who want to reduce their own energy consumption by using onsite wood residue can apply for a grant.
