WPA/FTMA Technical Conference

WPA and FTMA's Annual Technical Conference was held in Rotorua on Thursday 26 August and Friday 27 August.

This year's conference and field day was hosted by Scion.

As in previous years the Technical Conference was an ability, in an informal setting, to hear the progress WPA is making on work undertaken on behalf of our members.  This year we focused the morning on timber grading and treatment and had the pleasure of hosting Hon Maurice Williamson who provided members and affiliates with an update on both the leaky homes issues and the Building Act Review.

We covered aspects of biosecurity and members had an opportunity to discuss with senior Biosecurity New Zealand staff the implications of current and proposed export standards on their businesses. Ian Boyd, the Chief Executive of FITEC, updated members on the current developments within education and training and John Kelly provided members with an update on the Waiariki School of Technology’s activities and training. Elspeth MacRae provided members with an update on the recent Science Review.

On the second day (27 August), the staff from Scion updated members and affiliates on the research and development projects they have underway.
